Data-Construction Roadmap

HDARP extraction turned the source PDFs into a validated knowledge base of text and tables. The next phase applies the Anu data-construction framework to turn that knowledge base into harmonized, analyzable time-series panels — a single source of truth with full provenance per series.

Status: scoped (not yet built). 108 panel-capable series and 158 single-doc cross-sectional sources have been identified in the scoping pass (the Explorer surfaces the conservative tally of 98 panel-capable clusters). The flagship clusters below are prioritized by analytical value × readiness. No panels are constructed yet — the figures here describe the planned scope, drawn from the project's scope document.

Annual war-ministry reports; 8,633 tables — largest imperial table trove.

Penal statistics, agriculture, industry, the 1897 census + revisions, MPS railway/transport bulletins.

Harmonization challenges (designed once, reused)

  • Currency: silver- / credit- / gold-ruble (1897 reform) / Soviet ruble (1922 · 1947 · 1961 redenominations) — a deflator/units column, not naive concatenation.
  • Calendar: Julian → Gregorian (Feb 1918) for sub-annual alignment.
  • Administrative units: governorates (guberniya) → oblasts/krais → union republics crosswalk.
  • Category drift: ministries & revenue articles rename/split across years.
  • Orthography: pre-1918 Russian letters (ъ ѣ і ѳ) normalized for joins, originals preserved.
  • Regime break (1917): Imperial and Soviet kept linked-but-flagged, not merged.

A validated knowledge base of Imperial Russian & Soviet official statistics, extracted via HDARP. Russian source-document titles are translated into English (original preserved). Figures reconciled 2026-06-07. All numbers trace to canonical project artifacts — nothing on this site is fabricated; harmonized time-series panels are scoped but not yet constructed (see the Roadmap). Data is reconstructed for research and education; defer to the original archival sources.
